Tropical rainforests cover 6% of the Earth's surface yet they are home to over half the species of plants and animals on the planet. Tropical rainforests are located in an area called the 'tropics' which is a band around the equator from 23.5 degrees north (Tropic of Caner) to 23.5 degrees south (Tropic of Capricorn) - this is shown by the red lines in the map below.
They can be found in: Central America, The Amazon, Africa, Southern Asia and Australaisa as displayed on the map below. One third of the worlds tropical rainforests are found in Brazil. They are found in these areas because the solar radiation is the strongest here than anywhere else on the planet due to the Earth's tilt, the conditions are perfect for plant life.
